What is OCX?
OCX is a vessel-specific standard developed to fulfil the information needs of classification societies. It aims to replace traditional 2D class drawings with detailed, data-rich 3D models that enhance accuracy, accessibility, and data management across the maritime industry.

Why OCX?
Marine professionals have long struggled with transferring models across software, often losing critical metadata. Existing formats like XML and JSON offer partial solutions, sometimes impacting performance.
OCX solves this by merging geometry and metadata in a single XML file, ensuring data integrity and enabling "3D Approval." This all-in-one format advances the industry toward fully paperless design, manufacturing, and maintenance workflows.


Key Elements
The OCX Importer
Enables Class Societies using the 3DEXPERIENCE platform to seamlessly validate and certify projects originating from other systems. It also allows shipyards to collaborate with non-3DEXPERIENCE users while remaining within the platform, creating interoperability with other 3D tools. Currently, the OCX Importer operates through the CATIA COM interface, with plans for full integration (through CAA development) into 3DEXPERIENCE.


The OCX Exporter
Facilitates 3D classification for Class Societies outside the 3DEXPERIENCE platform. It also supports design offices working with shipyards that use different systems, enabling digital transformation by supporting basic design within 3DEXPERIENCE while maintaining production preparation in legacy systems. Built with CAA, the OCX Exporter will be fully integrated into 3DEXPERIENCE from the start.
