What is AITAC OCX eXchanger?
The AITAC OCX eXchanger is a tool designed to simplify and improve the conversion of complex file formats within the 3DEXPERIENCE platform. The converter converts OCX data into native Objects within the 3DEXPERIENCE Unified Datamodel, uniquely integrating CAD, PLM, Simulation, and Digital Manufacturing.
What is OCX?
OCX is a vessel-specific standard developed to fulfil the information needs of classification societies. It aims to replace traditional 2D class drawings with detailed, data-rich 3D models that enhance accuracy, accessibility, and data management across the maritime industry. Why OCX?
Marine professionals have long struggled with transferring models across software, often losing critical metadata. Existing formats like XML and JSON offer partial solutions, sometimes impacting performance.
OCX solves this by merging geometry and metadata in a single XML file, ensuring data integrity and enabling "3D Approval." This all-in-one format advances the industry toward fully paperless design, manufacturing, and maintenance workflows.

THE OCX IMPORTER
- •Enables Classification Societies using the 3DEXPERIENCE platform to validate and certify projects originating from other systems
- •Allows shipyards to collaborate with non-3DEXPERIENCE users while remaining fully within the platform
- •Builds interoperability with external 3D tools, supporting mixed-system project workflows
- •The OCX Importer, implemented via CAA development, supports the import of key structural features, including panels, stiffeners, members, brackets, and other elements. Imported details include openings, seams, slots, and end cuts

- •Supports 3D classification workflows for Classification Societies operating outside the 3DEXPERIENCE platform
- •Builds collaboration between design offices and shipyards using different systems
- •Allows basic design activities to be performed within 3DEXPERIENCE while maintaining production preparation in legacy systems
